If you’re looking for something fun to do on a Wednesday in the San Fernando Valley, the Northridge Farmers Market is worth adding to your list. With fresh produce, local food vendors, desserts, handmade goods, and a lively community atmosphere, it’s the kind of place where you can easily spend an afternoon or evening exploring.
Located in Northridge, this farmers market runs every Wednesday from March through October, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM. It’s known for its wide selection of fruits and vegetables, but the food is just as much a reason to stop by.
And that’s exactly what we did for our latest Eat Live Love San Fernando Valley adventure.
A Farmers Market With More Than Fresh Produce
One of the first things you’ll notice at the Northridge Farmers Market is the variety. Yes, you can stock up on fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables, but you can also come hungry.
There are food vendors offering everything from savory meals to sweet treats, making it easy to turn a quick farmers market visit into dinner.
During our visit, we sampled several different vendors and dishes, and each one brought something completely different to the experience.
Chimmy Grill’s Tri-Tip Sandwich
One of the standout bites was the tri-tip sandwich from Chimmy Grill.
This is not a small sandwich. It’s packed with tender tri-tip, mozzarella cheese, red onions, tomatoes, and their chimichurri sauce, all held together by soft bread.
The combination of the tender meat, fresh vegetables, melted cheese, and chimichurri creates a sandwich that’s filling and full of flavor.
Peruvian Flavor With Lomo Saltado
We also tried lomo saltado, a classic Peruvian dish featuring sirloin steak, onions, tomatoes, rice, French fries, and savory flavors including soy sauce.
It’s the kind of dish that brings several different flavors and textures together in one plate. The tender steak, rice, onions, and fries make it a hearty choice when you’re looking for something substantial at the market.
Sweet Crumbs’ Panzarotti
For something completely different, we stopped by Sweet Crumbs for an Italian-style panzarotti with a twist.
Inside was molten cheese combined with pesto, all surrounded by a crispy fried exterior. The result was almost like a combination of a fried pizza crust and a cheesy, pesto-filled bite.
It’s definitely something to save room for if you enjoy trying foods that are a little outside the ordinary.
Fresh Fruit at Barrancos Fruit
After enjoying some of the heavier dishes, Barrancos Fruit offered a refreshing change.
The strawberry and blueberry parfait was loaded with fresh fruit, creamy yogurt, granola, toppings, and honey. The combination of fresh berries, creamy yogurt, and crunchy granola made it a lighter way to satisfy a sweet tooth.
Comfort Food From Bun Boss
Another stop was Bun Boss, where we tried their chicken sweet bun and dumplings.
The soft, slightly sweet bun paired with tender chicken and homemade dumplings made this another comforting option. It’s the kind of food that feels hearty and familiar, especially when you’re walking around an outdoor market on a Wednesday evening.
Fresh Produce and Local Shopping
Of course, food isn’t the only reason to visit the Northridge Farmers Market.
The market also offers a great selection of fresh fruits and vegetables. Many shoppers come specifically to pick up seasonal produce for the week, while others simply enjoy browsing the stands and discovering something new.
Shopping at a local farmers market is also a simple way to support farmers, vendors, and small businesses in the community.
Don’t Forget Dessert
If you have a sweet tooth, make sure you leave some room for dessert.
The Northridge Farmers Market features a variety of baked goods, cookies, cakes, pastries, and other treats from local vendors. Whether you want something to enjoy while walking around or a box of goodies to take home, there are plenty of options to explore.
